Style Spotlight Series: Minimalist Home Design

This week, we’re thrilled to share the third installment in our ongoing Style Spotlight series! The first and second trends we explored were Coastal and Eclectic design; today, we’re shining a spotlight on Minimalist Home Design.

While the name implies simplicity, minimalist home design can be complex to nail down. Minimalism isn’t only about having fewer things; it’s about making selections with intention and letting them shine. The phrase “less is more” is often ascribed to minimalists. We’d also emphasize “quality over quantity”.

A few hallmarks of minimalist homes include:

  • Simple lines and patterns

  • Monochromatic or neutral color palettes

  • Limited furnishings, decor, and adornment

  • Lack of clutter and thoughtful storage

  • Open and flowing floor plans

  • An emphasis on natural light

Home Design We Love: Indoor-Outdoor Living

Is there anything better than being outside on a gorgeous day? Minnesotans know how fleeting sunny days are better than most; winter’s chill is always lurking around the corner. When it comes to home design we love, it’s hard to top indoor-outdoor living spaces - they’re truly the best of both worlds!

Indoor-outdoor home features allow you to enjoy the sunshine without the humidity, a warm evening free from bugs, or lounge poolside with the bar steps away. As the seasons change, these spaces are a real lifesaver during rollercoaster weather days. You get a taste of the outdoors but can still control your environment - think fireplaces!

Our Favorite Spaces Designed for Kids

The magic of childhood is fleeting. We love designing spaces where kids can be kids, places that foster their play, imagination, dreams, and passions. Whether we’re collaborating on a nursery, playroom, bedroom, or teen hangout, we create spaces where kids feel at home.

Our best advice when designing for kids is to leave room to grow. Avoid overt themes and matching decor, and opt for timeless choices that evoke a sense of whimsy and fun. And don’t be afraid to let your kiddo call some shots, too! It’s their space, after all, it should reflect their personality and interests.

Over the years, we’ve created every style of kid-friendly space imaginable. From secret hideouts and reading nooks to flexible lower levels and mudroom lockers to colorful bathrooms and state-of-the-art sport courts. Want to see a sample of our work? Style Spotlight Series: Eclectic Home Design

Today, we’re sharing the next chapter in our new Style Spotlight blog series. The first trend we explored was Coastal Design, and our next popular style is Eclectic Home Design! One of the more elusive styles to pin down, the chief rule of eclectic style is that there are no rules. Fun and surprising, this style is all about showcasing your unique taste and design personality.

Instead of adhering to one style, eclectic homes combine pieces from different periods and styles. With origins in the early 20th century, eclectic style was created by architects who didn’t want to feel constrained by a single design ethos. This trend then carried over into home decor and continues to be reinterpreted by designers.

While it may seem like anything goes to traditionalists, eclectic homes are still purposeful and planned. Although there’s no guidebook, some hallmarks that define eclectic style are mixing patterns, worldly or travel-inspired decor, combining old and new, bold use of color, and unexpected choices.
